One of my goals this year (2020) is to start writing more blog posts, especially reflective and informative posts about my life as an eclectic/wayward witch. So I find myself writing my first personal post this year about the pressures of modern day witch life.

Maybe I am showing my age, but I remember a time where you relied heavily on your local library and bookstore. The internet was used as a prompt to help you look for the right book, or at least tell you about the local new age events that might be on. Other than that you had do some old fashion research into any topic that was of interest to you.

Today we now have access to so much information that is overwhelming...well once you find a specific thing you want to look for, then I guess it's not so bad. However, being so connected to this information has created what I like to call the expectation society. There are so many opinions on the internet about how you should be X and how you should do Y, and if you are not doing it then you are not Z.

As an eclectic witch, I somehow avoided initially the "requirements" of how an eclectic witch should practice her craft. Still it was difficult because there are so many categories out there of what type of witch you can be and believe me there are a lot and probably new factions that I haven't even heard of yet.

So how is living as a witch today different from living as a witch in the past? Well as I mentioned above, there is more access to source material, the ability to join online communities worldwide, more products and services out there than you could shake a stick at. In the last 10 years spirituality has become "trendy", which in many cases poses good and bad outcomes. The positive is that more people are starting to work on their spiritual practice, finding what feels good and align with their higher self. The negative is that others find ways to take advantage of peoples new found enlightenment by capitalising on their willingness to pay.

The spiritual market is now flooded with books, courses and products that were not designed with a spiritual purpose in mind. The sacred sharing of knowledge and advice has turned towards the profitable mindset. I have been sucked in on multiple occasions where I have brought a course only to find that the topics on touched the surface and were copies of other textbooks or even other peoples content!

I am here to tell you that you can read and do whatever brings you joy, I only ask that you not rush into anything. Observe, be cautious about where you want to invest your time and energy. Being a Witch is a personally journey and you shouldn't have to sacrifice your integrity just to keep up with the trends. I know its hard we a lot of content has been beautifully designed.

Make time to really delve into the information and knowledge you want to attain, living as a modern day Witch will teach us to sift through the crap and find the truth in what really lightens you up and makes you the Witch you are!

I am still to this day battling with the expectation society, my only advantage is that I am wiser to what is being shown out there. It's a daily journey in which I refrain from trying to constantly compare myself to other witches.

Life as a modern day witch is about navigating your path in the social media saturated world. Find what lights you up, question the status quo, laugh and know that your path is your own and that you have the power to choose who and what you work on!

If this post resonates with you, then please share it, like or comment below about how it is for you to live as a modern day Witch. I created this space to not only share my knowledge, but to spark conversation about topics that sometimes we just need someone to say.

Love and Light,

ree
