Spring is almost upon us (finally!). So I thought it would be the perfect time to give you my rundown on how you can celebrate the Spring Equinox!
The Spring Equinox has a powerful background. From the ancient Mayans to the Celts, many religions have had their own traditions in acknowledging the changing of the seasons. For me I prefer the Ostara celebrations…so my celebration tips will be based on European traditions.
Ostara is the Anglo-Saxon or Old English translation of Ēostre, a Germanic Pagan goddess. In a way, the celebration is about “out with the old and in with the new”. Different faiths have their own ideas about what Ostara can mean to them.
For me, it is about bringing to life the intentions you set way back in Winter. As the days become longer and the nights become shorter, we can start to become optimistic. Winter reminds us that there is a life cycle for everything. An idea happens, then things happen where that idea is created. The natural cycle is where that idea will reach a certain point, the idea needs to evolve if it wants to survive the long dark months. So then its goodbye to that project as you settle in to redesign the next chapter (during the Winter months).
So after shaking off the short dark days, its time for us to embrace Springs improved weather and longer day, and we need to seriously get out into nature more. In today’s society, many of cannot go out into fields or forests. We are surrounded by concrete jungles and have very little space to create a large green sanctuary. But this doesn’t mean we cannot thank Ostara for the change in the weather, or enjoy what she has to offer by heading out into our local commons, parks and reserves.
If you wanting to bring Spring into your home, I also recommend try these:
Spring clean your altar and home – dust, sweep and rearrange. Place your crystals and scared items under the moon to recharge. Sage your home and set positive intentions!
Decorate your home with flora and fauna to say thank you mother nature for bringing back Spring.
Place decorative eggs on your altar in recognition of the Hare, as the Hare symbolises fertility and is the companion to Ostara.
Light one white candle and one black candle. Pairing these two candles together represents the light and dark becoming balanced as we move forward into Spring.
Create your own flower crown, this may be a fab in the fashion world but flower crowns have been part of pagan traditions for generations.
I thought it would be fab if I also made a tarot spread to go along with the festivities!
My spread below is about moving forward with your intentions. Just like the Magician in Tarot, Samhain has given you have all the tools you need to create. Now you need to tap into the potential!
