Mabon or the Autumn Equinox is the celebration of the end of Harvest (or second harvest as described by others). Lammas celebrations were about reaping the rewards from what you planted back in Spring. Now it’s time to start winding down and preparing for the cooler temperatures ahead, to look back at what we have done and show gratitude to all we have received.

This is a great time to contemplate and assess the past few months. I am currently reflecting on the things that have changed and the things that haven’t. It is surprising the expectations I have and how they change during the summer season. I feel so lucky to have a wonderful bunch of friends, a supportive family and colleague who get my warped sense of humour.

The Autumn Equinox is also a great time to clear out and complete tasks you have set for yourself. Spring is not the only time of the year where you can start afresh. There is nothing worse than heading into the darker cooler months with frustrations weighing you down. Look to what has worked and what needs to be let go. For me, I am releasing expectations in my living arrangements and pushing forward with side projects that have ended up on the wayside.

So what can you do to enhance your Mabon celebration? Well Mabon is from the 21st of September to the 29th of September. During that time there are a number of things you can do to worship the Autumn Equinox:

  • Find and practice meditation around balance – believe it or not when day and night become equal length our equilibrium can feel off balance. We have been used to the long Summer days and now with days becoming shorter and the nights becoming longer, no wonder we feel a little drained.

  • Adorn you altar with an array of Autumn items – acorns, leaves and berries. This also includes adding photos of your gods/goddesses.

  • Clean your home. Open the windows and let the cool air travel through, taking away stale and unwanted vibes and smells. Use this time to rearrange furniture and dress your house with Autumnal items.

  • Read your cards or have someone read them – set the intention for what you want to bring into this cooler period.

From the last recommendation, I have made this tarot spread for you to use. This spread is a great way to reflect what has happened in during summer and what you want to take with you into the coming months. Please tag #thewaywardwitch on Instagram when you use this post. I love to see what you reading turns out for you.
